Grocery Trip

I went to Darrenkamps last Thursday night for some last minute birthday ingredients. I didn't have time to take a picture, but I spent $24.01 for the following (total before card savings...$40.58, I didn't use any coupons):

1 whole chicken (on sale at $.79 lb)
1 block of cream cheese
1 loaf of whole wheat bread
5 lb bag of sugar
2-2 lb bags of 10x sugar
bananas
6 blocks of cheese (1 lb each)
1 gallon of skim milk

I did OK given that I couldn't use any coupons for any of the items I purchased. I wish I could have gotten a few more chickens, but being already over budget, I didn't want to spend the money since we have plenty of meat in our freezer already.

So here is the run down for this month (remember, my budget is $40 a week):

Week 1: $44.55
Week 2: $41.28
Week 3: $24.01

3 week total: $109.84 ($10.16 under budget)

I have $50.16 for the rest of the month!

Pumpkin Shortage?

Update: Here is an article from a local newspaper about this...stock up now!

I've read that some parts of the country, we are experiencing a pumpkin puree shortage. I didn't believe it, but yesterday, I went to Weis and Stauffer's and they were both out of their store brand large cans of pumpkin. Has anyone heard about this? Ugh, I guess there won't be any coupons for it around the holidays :( I love pumpkin, it's great for soups, breads, muffins and my most favorite dessert right now, pumpkin upside down cake. Here is the recipe.

Grocery Deals this weekend

This weekend I hit Weis and Stauffer's (SKH) to shop for us and my parents. Here is the breakdown:

This was what I bought at Weis this weekend

Total before savings: $95.04
Total coupon savings: $17.40
Total club savings: $23.66

Total OOP: $57.98

This is my SKH trip.

Total before savings: 67.20
Total coupons: $18.90

Total OOP: $48.30

So, how did I do? Well, at both Weis and SKH, I spent $41.28, which is still over budget. Michael's 1st birthday is this Friday, so I know I had to buy a bunch of baking supplies that normally I don't buy, so I am over our budget by $5.83 this month, which stinks, but I will find a way to make it up! Maybe I will only buy diapers next week or something.......

(PS--the rest of the grocery money was what I bought for my parents)

Did you know?

Stock Photography: Grocery Food Items in Bag

Stores are hoping you will buy more when they limit the quantity you can buy? Don't get fooled into buying 4 of something if you really don't need it, just because the store has a limit. They want you to think you're getting the best deal, when sometimes you really aren't.

I know I have fallen for this a few times.

Last night I took advantage of some of the sales at Giant and Weis. I also took a trip to Roots Market for some produce. Here is what I bought.

Total before coupons and Club Savings: $32.07
Total Club Savings: $13.31
Total Coupon Savings: $8.70
Total Out of Pocket: $10.06* PLUS, I got back $2.00 in catalina's to spend on my next trip

Giant: (Pasta, Ragu, Bread, Chips, Instant Pudding, Yogurt, Ground Turkey, Candy, Iced Tea--but I drank that on the way home!)
Total before coupons and Bonus Card: $40.01
Total Bonus Card Savings: $13.37
Total Coupon Savings: $11.35
Total Out of Pocket: $15.29*

Roots Market: (Bananas, Watermelon, Peaches, Apples, Peppers)
Total out of Pocket: $7.75

Grand Total OOP: $33.10

My weekly budget is $40 and under, so I did pretty good!

*I didn't go to the store organized with my coupons like I normally do, so I forgot to use some coupons that would have saved me another $6.00. Oh well, such is life!

Did you find any good bargains this week? If so, post them here!
